These databases are freely downloadable as zipped dbf's from the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission. The site contains more than one hundred zipped files, for an explanation of each use the index provided on the front page.

Information

Database information:
The CFIC downloaded three main categoreis of data: Candidates, Committees, and Lobbyists.

CaCont3.dbf contains 81,266 contributions from 16,673 donors to 855 candidates for 29 offices from 1993 to April 1998. This table contains a code for each candidate in the "NUM" field, that code can be used in Can Reg1.dbf to lookup the name, address...etc of each candidate.

CmCont3.dbf contains 34,167 records of contributions to 98 committees from 3/10/94 to 3/1/98. Use the code in the NUM to look up the committee's name, address, phone...etc. in CmReg1.dbf.

Lobcash2.dbf is the main table for lobbyists, it gives detailed reports of what lobbyists spend on whom. The NUM filed contains the lobbyist's id, the EMPID field is the lobbyist's employer's id. The name, address, phone..etc of the lobbyist can be looked up in Lobreg1.dbf. The name, address, phone...etc of the employer can be looked up in Empreg3.dbf. Empdates.dbf tells you when a lobbyist's contract with a certain employer begins and ends.
